Cobalt Blue Dutch Braid Pigtails

If you have lighter roots, we suggest you keep the lighter blue towards the roots and layer to a darker blue through the ends. This isn’t your ordinary dark hair because this is a bluish black shade! This darkest steel blue black bob works so fine on thick, straight hair. Considering the perimeter of this cut that stops at the neckline, it looks even fuller. Ask your colorist for a gloss treatment to keep your black and blue hair shiny and luscious.

What color eyes do most Irish have?

This blue ombré has such a smooth transition—don’t you love how it moves from brunette to blue to an even lighter blue at the tips? This works especially well with long hair, since you’ll want to have a lot of space for the colors to fade into each other. If you think a stark black color will be too harsh against your skin, try a muted black and blue. The black color is muted a bit with gray/silver and luxe navy tones shake up the color. It’s a beautiful option for fair, neutral-toned skin as shown. Try Wella Color Charm Paints in Blue or KISS Tintation in Blue Moonlight for subtle blue tones over a black base color.

Black Blue Bob Hair with Curtain Bangs

What’s one to do if they want a dark hair color but don’t want to do without dimension? It’s true that certain deep shades can fall flat on your strands, looking totally one-dimensional—but not blue black hair. If you’re not feeling a true black shade, a blue-black hair color could be the perfect way to add more interest to your mane. And lucky for you, it’s pretty easy to pick up a box of blue black hair dye and get the look at home.

The good news is, such looks don’t require bleaching, so you can try something new without the fear of damage. Also, it’s better to apply the color only to the mid-lengths to keep your roots safe. To make the black portion prevail, ask your stylist to blend a saturated shade of blue into your dark base so that the dye comes out as a transparent layer. In this way, you will make your black hair stand out even through the blue-colored hair, switching the whole look to the dark mode. Now, it’s time for the dark side of the indigo blue palette. We weren’t lying when we told you about its versatility, though.

SOFT CURLS

I’m loving the contrast between this bright, comic book-esque blue ombré paired with shiny, voluminous waves. But make sure to spritz on a heat protectant before you use hot tools on dyed hair, says Hernandez. “The excess heat from curling wands and flat irons can lift your color and make it appear dull and fade faster,” she says. This shade of blue and black is going to look phenomenal on ladies who enjoy bright and fun ideas. This hairdo with these soft waves is a must-try for ladies who like elegance. A subtle hue of blue is going to add that fun effect to your locks.

Dark Metallic Blue Highlights

While some ladies get satisfied with just a couple of highlights, others want their head to be a canvas to all trending colors. Blue black hair paired with grey ombre seems to have outshined the latest looks spotted on trendsetters. So as not make the colors blend roughly, ask your stylist for grey ombre with blue undertones. Midtown Magenta coloring usually features saturated pink or violet shades.

Applying oil, shine spray, and hairspray onto your hair will give this blue black hair color an added glow. There’s so much richness in this Midnight Blue tone from GuyTangMydentity. We recommend pairing them with a deep blue black hair color as the base, so they really pop. Or alternatively, add the highlights to your natural color to simply rejuvenate your look. These are often great for a bit of fun as the brightness will fade after a few washes, but they also pack a real punch and make a real statement. These colored blue highlights work particularly well in layered hair, adding texture, interest and fullness to the style.

Fresh Short Bob with Bangs Looks to Style Your Blunt Cut

These blue black hair dyes are easy to apply, and they also give very intense results. Ink blue is a captivating deep shade, slightly brighter than denim. When applied correctly, it gives dark hair a beautiful silvery sheen. This versatile color can have both warm and cool undertones, depending on the shade and saturation.

It works well as a leave-in conditioner for kinkier textures or a rinse-out conditioner for fine, wavy hair. Apply this leave-in to wet hair for tresses that are softer, more hydrated, and easier to detangle. The lightweight formula makes it a great go-to for various hair types to experience moisture without being weighed down. It’s packed with green tea, shea butter, and argan oil to improve manageability and fight frizz.

You can pair this versatile hairdo with an all-black outfit and sport it at a get-together with friends and family. Natural blue black is a softer shade of black that borders on dark gray or silver. This is the best choice for fairer skin tones that want to avoid a stark contrast between the skin and hair color. Just make sure to load up on conditioner afterward, or opt for an in-salon, deep-conditioning treatment like hair botox. Some women choose blue and black hair colors to reflect their moods – from serene navy blues during calm moments to intense blacks when feeling empowered. Jet black is the darkest and most intense shade of black that naturally comes with blue or purple undertones.

If you have dark hair and want a lower maintenance way to rock vivid hair color, try jet black with blue peekaboo highlights. This is a great way to scratch the itch of having fashion colors instead of coloring your whole head of hair. Not only is this pic honestly all of my hair-shine goals, but it’s also the perfect balance between muted blue and soft black, making it incredibly flattering on every skin tone.

Work with your stylist to pick shades that will make sense and work well together. We’re clearly a fan of silver dye jobs, but add in some saturated turquoise dimensions and you have the perfect edgy look. (We love the traces of pigment mostly throughout the crown). With pretty ocean blue hair like hers, you'll be sure to make waves. Beth Gillette is the beauty editor at Cosmopolitan, where she covers skincare, makeup, hair, nails, and more across digital and print. Follow her on Instagram for makeup selfies and a new hair 'do every few months.

If you like long and wispy locks and you want to try out something bold and sexy, this is for you! If you have 20 minutes to spare in the morning you’re going to love this look. Consider putting one of Our 12 Best Black Hair Dyes for 2020 to use before highlighting your hair. This heat protectant is designed to protect hair up to 450 degrees for a sleek look that lasts for days on end. When it comes to color like this vivid blue, a stylish cut definitely amplifies the fun, while also looking super elegant.

Brighter blues require you to bleach your hair first, and sometimes, it might take multiple sessions to obtain the hue you envision. In cases like this, it is best to get professional help to ensure you get the color just right. Wash off your hair dye with a mild cleanser and apply some moisturizing gel or cream to the affected area to soothe the skin. Dyeing your hair might be a commitment, but, again, that doesn't mean you have to commit to only one color. Take a page from this post and pick two shades to color-block together.

These highlights are so thin and light that you might miss them altogether at first glance. Black hair is due to a lot of pigment (melanin) in the hair, and usually occurs along with a lot of pigment in the iris of the eye. Sometimes, though, it does not, giving black hair and blue eyes. Opt for a single shade of rich, dark brown for plenty of exotic depth. Opt for cinnamon or copper reds, dark auburn or rich burgundy to really make those blue peepers pop.

Blue Black Hair Dye & Permanent Blue Black Hair Color

For this look, have your stylist paint on the highlights, which is more subtle than the dip-dyed look. This is one of the simplest methods available to get blue hues on your black hair. By taking a look at the picture above, you will see that these two deep colors belong perfectly well to each other. The trend of combining blue and black hair is often inspired by the beauty of the night sky, where deep blacks merge with the ethereal blues of twilight. If you have longer hair and you love its shine, this will suit you.

Colourful Casual Curls

All you need is a hair mousse like the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle CURVE IT Elastic Curl Mousse to get the job done. Simply grab an egg-sized amount, distribute evenly on damp strands, scrunch, and air dry. Unless the look you’re going for is an all-over mermaid, full stop, some blue highlights can give your look a more sophisticated dimension and ease you into the fading process. Because, spoiler, blue fades into greenish-gray, and it fades fast. Who woulda thunk that wearing pink and blue hair outside of a gender-reveal baby shower, would be anything other than a faux pas?

TIP #2: ADD A HAIR MASK TO YOUR WEEKLY ROUTINE

This is a great way to explore the trend if you have dark brown hair to start. You’re not quite ready to have a full dye job but you want to see how your hair and skin tone takes to blue tones. Show this to your stylist and ask them for this color melted look. When you go for your touch up then discuss if dying your hair a darker black shade is right for you.

Moreover, can someone with black hair have blue eyes?

black and blue hair

Although it happens pretty rarely, some people may be born with black hair that has a soft bluish undertone, which is known as blue black hair today. In case you don’t belong to this limited group of people, you can try this all-over idea. Trust us, it will look as if you were born with this shade.

A navy blue base color gives rise to a magnificent dark cobalt blue that instantly makes the hairdo come alive. The gently teased ends balance the tight weave of the braid far too well. This electric mermaid hairdo comes in a trio of vivid colors in a seamless blend, making for a bold statement. Berry blue dye offsets a deep violet tinge emanating from the crown of the head till shoulder-length. Peekaboo highlights, or highlights on the underside layers of hair, gain an ombré-like effect when concentrated toward the ends. They’re also a tongue-in-cheek wink to otherwise run-of-the-mill hair color and result in a look with tons more personality.

A short bob with a middle part is going to look so cute on ladies in their thirties. You can recreate this design easily and you’re going to love it for your office moments. The curtain bangs help to frame the face, allowing you to experiment with casual and fun looks. A pair of glasses in conjunction with a neutral-toned outfit would be enough to polish off this look. This middle-parted hairdo with dutch braids on either side is a casual and trendy look to pull off. Azure-streaked highlights adorn the brunette braids that halt at the neck, giving way to pigtails on the sides, secured by wrapping the dyed strands around the scrunchies.

Personal life

Patients that do not have a full head of hair often suffer from self-esteem issues and have a lack of confidence in their appearance. While they might try to cover the hair loss with a new hairstyle or a hat on their head, these methods will not permanently solve the issue for the patient. In order to make a change that is natural in appearance as well as long lasting, many patients decide to undergo a hair transplant in order to gain the full hairline they desire on a regular basis. Los Angeles is one of the most popular destinations for patients to receive a hair transplant as this city is the home of many of the top hair restoration doctors in the country. Before patients undergo any of the hair transplant options listed above, they should consult with a board-certified Los Angeles hair restoration doctor. They can also schedule a consultation with a board-certified surgeon elsewhere in the country.

As a patient, you have certain rights when you visit a doctor or hospital. Back in 2010 he shaved off the mustache during "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which was broadcasting live from Radio City Music Hall in New York. In the fall of 2002, he launched his own nationally syndicated series, Dr. Phil. The one-hour talk show garnered the highest ratings of any new syndicated program since the launch of The Oprah Winfrey Show 16 years earlier, and went on to pick up more than two dozen Emmy nominations. Just four years later, McGraw picked up his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of North Texas. In 1979, Dr. Phil opened a practice with his father, who had earned his psychology degree following a career as an oil rig equipment supplier.

He quit his private practice to start Pathways, a self-motivation seminar, as well as a company called Courtroom Sciences. After helping Oprah Winfrey win a lawsuit in 1998, he became a regular on her talk show, before launching his own daytime program, Dr. Phil, in 2002. An avid tennis player, golfer and scuba diver, Dr. McGraw lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Robin. The couple, married 46 years in August 2022, are totally devoted to their family, including sons Jay and Jordan, Jay’s wife, Erica, and Jordan’s wife, Morgan Stewart. They are the ridiculously proud grandparents of Avery Elizabeth, London Phillip, Row Renggli, and Grey Oliver McGraw. In August 2021, the reality television series House Calls with Dr. Phil aired on CBS.[42] In the series, McGraw visits various families at home and offers advice on their home life.[43] The series ended after six episodes in September 2021.

In his younger days, Dr. Phil had a full head of hair and a charming smile that could light up a room. He was always a confident and charismatic individual, even in his youth. A healthy head of hair that is thick and dense is desired by people of all ages. They want a full head of hair because that is perceived by others as being a sign that the person with the full head of hair is successful and healthy.

The hair transplant surgeon examines the scalp of the patient to determine why the hair loss is occurring and if the patient is an ideal candidate for a hair transplant. The consultation appointment is also how the hair restoration doctor determines the ideal hair transplant option to provide the desired fullness and density of the hair on the scalp of the patient. Phillip Calvin McGraw (born September 1, 1950), known professionally as Dr. Phil, is an American television personality and author, best known for hosting the talk show Dr. Phil. He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, though he ceased renewing his license to practice psychology in 2006.

1980s big hair

Though you might consider it a casual daytime option, she wore this ponytail while presenting the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1980. Once known for her elegant and sleek long hair, Cher transformed into a rock goddess when she cut her hair into this epic mullet. With those strings of pearls, lace, and a white vest, and we truly can't get enough of this entire look.

Big Hair In Music

This pony was often made spiky and textured with a crimping iron and a whole lot of backcombing. The goal was to create the illusion that the hair was literally exploding out of the top of the head like a spout of water. Cosmetic chemist Krupa Koestline says it’s true that today's products are much less harsh than they were in the ‘80s. "And modern formulations include combinations of ingredients that work together to minimize styling damage" — things like heat protection and UV protection, which weren’t as popular or used as often in the '80s. As seen in every '80s workout video ever, the side ponytail is one of the most defining hairstyles of the decade. In 2020, it gets a modern twist with bangs that lay in the opposite direction (instead of pulling all of the hair diagonally into one focal point).

Mullet

Finally, hair metal bands often featured members who were more interested in their own image than in making good music. This can lead to sloppy performances and an overall lack of quality control. From the perm to the mullet, volume was key for both male and female haircuts and eccentricity was the driving force behind this sudden switch of styles. Not a hairstyle but an important ‘80s must-have not to be overlooked, big hair bows were some of the most well-loved ‘80s hair accessories. Whether they were wrapped around ponytails, or adorned on the head, front and center, they made quite the statement with minimal effort required. One of the most notable haircuts of the ‘80s, the shag cut, features choppy ends and layers for a style that offers tons of body and movement.

The Shag Haircut

"Today, the hairline is sleek and snatched, and the hair falls from the pony like a glamorous waterfall." To get this look, curl all your hair with a large barreled curling iron and brush it out once set. Pull the top half into a high pony and secure it with a thick ponytail holder or scrunchie. If you’re not quite ready for a full mullet, but crave that '80s shag vibe, the viral wolf cut is a popular option.

You can have fun picking the perfect hair hues and mixing it up with the tones you select. Chunky highlights have become iconic looks of celebrities through the years, such as Jennifer Aniston and her “Friends” character, Rachel Green. Highlights, ombre and balayage are wonderful ways to add texture and depth to showcase your stunning locks.

When Hairspray Reigned Supreme! Big 80s Hairstyles in all their Decadent Glory

Bleaching and coloring strips away the natural moisture and oils from hair and can alter the structure of the hair shaft, leaving it dry and vulnerable to breakage, per MedicalNewsToday. "Strong bobs are about to be all over the place," says Robinson. "This bold hair is graphic, blunt, and geometric. It shows up and doesn’t wisp away into nothing." She says this is an especially great cut for people with fine hair. "The crimping irons of today are a lot wider than the '80s crimpers and leave far less demarcation," says Toth. "You can use them to create everything from beachy waves to Hollywood glam waves — but they still use that basic crimping technology." "Eighties blowouts are all about lifting the roots," says Toth.

If you’re game for experimenting with shorter strands, an ‘80s asymmetrical cut will fall right in line. Sporting a deep side part, an asymmetrical cut gives one side of your hair a longer length than the other. Perfect for round face shapes, this look highlights your features and gives your face a slimmer look. Today, it’s usually created as an asymmetrical bob, and it’s just as flattering and chic.

Want to try a bold and bright neon mane or a new romantic avant-garde hairstyle for the evening? Experiment with a wig instead of risking the ruin of your natural hair. Otherwise, you can opt for temporary hair dye (not semi-permanent) which rinses out in one to two washes and doesn't impact the hair shaft (via Natural Wellbeing). Sadly, the harsh truth is that dyeing hair, especially with chemical hair dyes, can be harmful to the hair and scalp for several reasons. It's widely known that prolonged exposure to chemicals is one of the easiest ways to severely damage the hair.

Instead, in 2024, it translates to S-shaped waves that give you loads of volume, minus the frizz. Women embraced confident looks characterized by height, volume, and edginess, mirroring the spirit of the era. From the power suits in the corporate world to the rebellious punk subculture on the streets, hairstyles became a form of self-expression and assertion of individuality - not only for women. In this article, we’ll delve into the cultural influences behind the iconic 80s hairstyles for women. From the disco subculture to the mood of society, we’ll unravel the factors that shaped these trendsetting looks. Experimentation, theatrics, and attention-grabbing gimmicks have come back into style; just see the late-2000s hair pouf making an epic comeback.

Steve Perry of Journey was the epitome of an excellent singing voice. To achieve a more natural and post-beach effect, you'll need to use different rollers sizes. Curling should start midway along the hair and not at its roots.

Tease one section at a time, as this will ensure a balanced volume distribution. Remember to use a gentle touch when teasing your hair and avoid aggressive backcombing. To emulate an '80s look, it's best to tease hair that's already curly or wavy, but this can work on straight hair, too. He recommends using a 3-barrel curling iron or waver to build that ‘80s-inspired volume and texture (like Blake's) without the dated crimp pattern.

Her hairstyle and fashion sense were imitated by millions of young girls and women around the world. Princess Diana popularized a hairstyle that was relatively short and easy to maintain. The hairstyle portrayed a modern, professional look that was classy and still resonates with women today. The Flattop was really popular in the 1950s and unexpectedly became trendy again with boys and men in the 1980s. It’s a military-style haircut that requires electric clippers to trim the hairs on the top of the head to the point that when they stand straight up, the top of the head appears like a tabletop. Usually, the hairs were cut short enough that they would stand straight up on their own, but sometimes gel would be required.

As seen on celebs such as Kylie Jenner and Beyoncé, try these face-framing chunky highlights for a new twist on a classic look. Hair barrettes have been back for the better part of 2020, and we're so glad to see that clip-in bows got the memo. Style these any way you so please (at the nape of your ponytail, pinned into a top-knot, etc.), but we love how this side-part detail gives a definitive nod to the 1980s. Sophie Ross has covered beauty and fashion for more than five years. Her writing appears in Refinery29, The Knot, StyleCaster, and more.

At the Grammys earlier this month, she turned heads with a bouffant hairstyle–think sky-high root lift and curly tendrils flicking around her face. Her hairstylist, Bob Recine, deployed plenty of Nexxus XXL Volume Hairspray to create the look. “We wanted [to create] something fuller… but sexy and tousled and touchable,” he said. Cyrus’s hair looked like it moved–not always guaranteed back in the ’80s–thanks to Nexxus’s lightweight formula. This hairstyle became HUGE with young girls and teens in the 1980s. Famous celebrities such as Debbie Gibson and Danica Mckellar from the TV series Wonder Years were seen sporting this look.

Crimped hair, teased locks and loads of volume are coming back in a big way right now. To create the perfect crimps and waves, you can use a three-barrel iron or sleep with your hair in braids and then unravel them in the morning. The 1980s was a very creative era when it came to music and popular culture in general. From new wave to glam rock, people were largely rejecting the flamboyant styles of the previous decade and creating new approaches to fashion, lifestyle and above all ― haircuts. With bold looks in mind, it’s only right we mention the infamous mullet.

Hair Through History: 10 Popular Looks of the 1980s

1980s big hair

'Pretty Woman' (1990)- This styling technique was a head-turning success during the 1980s and early '90s. In fact, the exaggerated perm was the fashion look of the '80s. Invented in the 1970s by hairdresser Jheri Redding, the Jheri Curl (also spelled Jerry or Jeri Curl) grew in popularity when international superstar Michael Jackson donned the wet look in the 1980s. The style involved a two-part application process that first softened hair, and then set the curls, resulting in a glossy, loose look. Additionally, many of these bands broke up in the early 90s, right when grunge was starting to become popular. As a result, their music has been largely overshadowed by more recent genres.

A good tip is to initially start with tighter curls that will then turn into loose curls as the day goes on. Top it off with a texturizing or silkening spray for ultimate shine. Celebrities Julia Roberts, Madonna, and Farrah Fawcett were famous for their perms—flowing, curly waves held in place by a can's worth of hair spray. But styling techniques have come a long way over the last 30 years, and getting a perm today is quite different from the way it was achieved back in the heady '80s. Browse the gallery and take a look at how celebrities used to wear their hair and compare the style with today's modern makeover. This hairstyle is all about rocking teased front strands layered with a strong-hold hairspray for a voluminous look that lasts all day long.

Floral Accessories

Use these to hold your hair in place with the half up half down style or put one in while you have a ponytail or braid. In fact, wild herds of permed men known as bands styled themselves with big, frizzy, flowing hair perfecty exemplified by the members of Europe, a rock band formed in Sweden in 1979. There are many theories as to why glam metal lost its popularity.

Dianna Ross’s Curls in the Wind

To reduce damage, start by preparing your hair for heat styling with a moisturizing conditioner to maintain hydration. Next, protect your hair with a heat-protectant spray to prevent damage and create a barrier between your hair and the heat. Invest in a high-quality hair crimping or hair wave tool that'll ensure heat is distributed evenly. Different hair types can withstand different temperatures, but hair should never be exposed to more than 400 degrees Fahrenheit unless at the hands of an expert, per Sojourn Beauty. "The half-up, half-down, high pony, scrunchie combos today are a lot more polished than they were in the '80s," says Toth.

Scrunch an egg-sized amount through your strands and let them air dry. Once complete, add a touch of hairspray to keep your curls bouncy and intact all day long. The '80s will forever be remembered as the era when a trip to the salon could transform straight locks into a cascade of glamorous curls that perfectly captured the essence of the time.

The 1980s witnessed a diverse range of cultural influences that left an indelible mark on hairstyling trends for women. Pop culture icons like Madonna and Michael Jackson served as fashion influencers, inspiring individuals to experiment with their hair in bold and unconventional ways. Their larger-than-life personas, along with their music videos and performances, fueled the desire for unique and eye-catching hairstyles. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why they called some rock groups “Hair Bands”. The latter half of the 1980s saw Glam Metal popularize the big hair look that was both voluminous and loud. This look involved crimping, teasing, perming, bleaching and chemically treating their hair into a wild mess.

Winona Ryder’s ’80s hits don’t quit— including Heathers, Beetlejuice, and Mermaids. She was also a never-ending beauty inspiration for the decade with her cool-girl haircuts and minimalist beauty. Separate your hair into sections and select a smaller division of hair — about 1 inch wide — to work on at a time. Clamp the crimping iron near the roots and hold it for a few seconds. Continue to move down the section of hair, crimping portions until you reach the ends.

1980s big hair

Bleached hair became popular, along with spikes, mohawks and innovative uses of hair color. The look, though not entirely mainstream, became much more widely accepted as more young people sought to express their individuality through a unique sense of style. The origins of glam metal can be traced back to the late 1970s when bands such as Kiss and Aerosmith began incorporating elements of glam rock into their music.

Perms in the '80s weren't merely a hairstyle; they were a transformative experience that defined an entire era of fashion. The goal was to create a head of high-volume, semi-permanent bouncy curls or tight corkscrew jheri curls, but unfortunately, the harsh chemicals in '80s-era perms notoriously lead to fried, frizzy, damaged hair. The Mullet haircut existed in several different styles, all characterized by hair short on the sides and long in the back.[10] Mullets were popular in suburban and rural areas among working class men. This contrasted with a conservative look favored by business professionals, with neatly groomed short hair and very short sideburns for men and sleekly straight hair for women. White collar men's haircuts were often shaved at the nape of the neck to create an artificially even hairline.

The last step in styling your 1980s big hairstyle involves the use of hair spray. Long hair will succumb to the effect of gravity at some point, thus hair spray allows you to secure your mane in a gravity-defying form, which would not be possible sans the hair spray. Use as much hair spray as you want; just spray from a distance of about a foot (or 30 centimetres) and make sure to not get the spray on your eyes.

While '80s mullets tended to be super short on top and much longer in the back, modern mullets are a bit more blended and intentional. The classic mullet was a hairstyle staple for every '80s heartthrob — and it has, perhaps surprisingly, withstood the test of time. As with any re-emerging style, the key to making an '80s style werk is to make it modern.

1980s big hair

Pairing these edgy looks with alternative hair colors, such as bright blues and greens, was also the norm. These days, this 80s hairstyle has resurfaced in all its subversive glory, with a gamut of patterns and colors to boot. At one point, “accessories” such as bows, headbands, lace ribbons, and scarves all blurred together into one big, hot mess—#SorryNotSorry! These days, we’re thankfully taking the deconstructed route in terms of hair accessorizing and using headwraps as both a practical and stylish way to look polished with minimal effort.

The '80s were full of iterations of bangs, but it was the permed fringe that reigned supreme. Taking on a shape all their own, they were worn curly, teased as high as possible, and set in a way that blended flawlessly with the rest of the hair. Add some modern volume to your fringe by using your curling iron to create volumized bangs, just make sure to curl away from your face. We're throwing it back to the era when perms, mullets, and hair accessories were all the rage — a time when our beloved beauty icons were Madonna, Princess Diana, and Whitney Houston, among others.

If you have thicker locks, it can establish lots of layers to reveal the ultimate cool-girl look. The Eighties saw the rise of hairstyles unlike any other that had come before. Wild color, wacky shapes and whimsical styling resulted in looks that couldn't be categorized as anything other than "wild." Generally speaking, hair was big, fluffy, curly, crimped, colorful and accessorized. Parts were shunned, as were classic cuts and anything that could be considered "boring." Stars like Cyndi Lauper and Madonna changed their hair almost daily, inciting the masses to do the same.

Dallas' Mr Brunch Finds a New Favorite Hudson House is a Haven for Oysters and More

hudson house lakewood

Is popular for its half-price drinks, oysters and famous cheeseburger, but neighbors hoping to avoid groups may want to skip happy hour and miss other peak dining times. Customers can socialize with their pandemic pod in the Pineapple Room, a private dining nook that seats eight guests. They were light and fluffy, almost as if they were the clouds from my culinary heaven. The pancakes were topped with lemon ricotta, powdered sugar, cream cheese glaze, blueberries and whipped cream. Lemon ricotta now needs to go on almost everything I make. Hudson House is known for oysters, fish and seafood towers, but the cheeseburger is the must-try menu item at this highly anticipated new restaurant.

We went on to sample many other items that our charming and knowledgeable server recommended. Those included the scallops, steak frites and ahi tuna. All good, but I must point out another item that I will likely return to have again and again — the lemon pancakes. As I am not a true oyster aficionado I appreciated that each had a description.

On a weekday evening at Hudson House Addison, the covered outdoor patio was comfortable and safely spaced out. All servers and management wore their masks and it truly felt like a mini vacation once the first cocktail came out — a frozen peach Bellini always doles out those beach vibes.

One of Dallas’ Best Happy Hours Makes its Way to Lakewood — Hudson House’s Hotspot Appeal Travels

Having lived in New England (Mystic, Connecticut, to be precise) I’ve had my fair share of lobster rolls. It was lightly toasted and not incredibly thick (I hate any version of this sandwich where it’s impossible to get a whole bite into your mouth at once). But the months-long hype surrounding Hudson House has drawn its own crowd. Some neighbors have shared on social media that the restaurant often appears too crowded.

Vandelay Hospitality is expanding its buzzy, East coast-inspired Hudson House Restaurant & Raw Bar into the Lakewood neighborhood of East Dallas. The brand’s third outpost will open at Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road, housed in the iconic former IHOP Restaurant space. I was elated to hear that one of my favorite brunch spots had just opened a new outpost in my neighborhood. And it has half-price martinis and some shining stars from the menu (including oysters) also at half-price from 3 pm til 6 pm. Hudson House Lakewood has debuted during a time when other restaurants are struggling or have closed.

When they go they like to play a game where they fantasize about traveling to the place where their oyster hails from and what they would do there for a vacation. First off, I knew this was a cool place given that our server Jill had an amazing haircut, platinum and edgy — and also worked on the side as a DJ. Given the current economy, many out there (myself included) are looking for some high-end fun, but at lower prices. Happy hour is often a way to get a classic cocktail and some house specialties at discounted prices.

(The smaller, Raspberry oysters ended up being my favorite.) The Bouquet also comes with snow crab claws, tuna tartare, shrimp cocktail, and grilled pineapple to mix it up. After nearly a year of anticipation, the opening date for the third location of beloved East Coast-inspired restaurant, Hudson House Lakewood, is finally upon us. We arrived to find a dining room and bar that was buzzing (it was a Tuesday at 5pm), but with every other banquette purposefully empty. The decor is similar to the Addison and University Park locations, with hints of New England vacation spots such as Nantucket and East Hampton. Many of the patrons seemed straight out of a Vineyard Vines ad with their pastel polos, sundresses, and Jack Rogers sandals.

Rapidly Growing Dallas Restaurant Retreat Brings Plenty of Charms

In the case of the blue point the blurb read “first timer’s favorite” and for raspberry simply “oyster snob’s favorite.” Also, the Hudson House team is smart to recommend the perfect drink to accompany each oyster. On my quest to become that ideal of a human, I have found a new favorite brunch spot, Hudson House. It boasts two Dallas area restaurant locations — one in Addison and the other in University Park, with a third is poised to open in early 2020 in Lakewood. Other items we sampled that late afternoon included the American tuna tower salad and Big Brother lobster roll.

If you see me there (socially distanced from you on another bar stool), be sure to shoot me a knowing wink and let me know your thoughts on those oysters. Throw in some blue-and-white porcelain and bowls of lemons, and I’m a happy camper. Music was loud enough to provide a lively background, and on our visit, Michael Jackson came on twice (“Rock with You” and “Human Nature”).

This incredible chip and dip pairing was hard to stop chomping on throughout our meal. But room had to be saved, especially because the Hudson cheeseburger, Big Brother Lobster Roll, and French Chicken were coming out next. All were outstanding, but for me, nothing could beat the popular cheeseburger topped with pickles, minced onion, and Hudson sauce. And for dessert, do not miss the Key Lime pie — it’s one of the best things you’ll try. Ownership group Vandelay Hospitality announced that the Lakewood outpost will open its doors at 4040 Abrams Road on July 28.

Made with two thin patties, American cheese, minced onion, pickles and Hudson sauce, you’ll forget that it’s from a neighborhood seafood joint. I asked our lovely server what one of the most popular menu items was, and she said, “Hands down, our cheeseburger.” What? A burger at a place that totes its incredible delicacies from the sea? Well, given that is was also 1/2 price during happy hour I had to try it — and, honestly, from the first bite, I understood why. Bagels and cream cheese are delivered every weekend from newly opened Shug’s Bagels, located just down the road on Mockingbird Lane. Try six of Shug’s signature creations at Hudson House without waiting in the massive line that forms outside the bagel shop.

Busy for brunch on the weekend, definitely need reservations but we weren't rushed after we were seated, the eggs Benedict were tasty, and love the French press coffee. Luckily we were able to get a table away from the crowded part of the restaurant, but we're near the kitchen. I enjoyed the Addison restaurant's ambiance a lot more. Hudson House, the DFW mini-chain known for its killer oyster happy hour specials and top-notch burgers, will open its doors in Lakewood next week. My colleague, the ever-so-chic Lisa Collins Shaddock, shared with me that she and her husband are diehard Hudson House brunch fans.

I went with my standard Brooks Brothers white button-up, an Anderson & Cooper navy striped cotton sweater tied around my shoulders, shorts, and Stan Smith Adidas. As vice president of culinary for Vandelay Hospitality, Douglas is elevating old dishes like the chicken Parmesan by recreating the sauce and upgrading the pasta with a selection from Eataly. He is also introducing new items like grilled oysters to keep the menu fresh and exciting. Be on the lookout for a molten lava cake that may make its way into the Hudson House dessert rotation.

It was originally scheduled to open earlier this year, but we all know how most well-laid plans. Their other two locations, Addison and University Park, have also reopened this summer, but with limited-capacity guidelines in place. The menu will serve the same wildly popular cheeseburgers, super-cold martinis, and East Coast oysters as other Hudson House locations, along with weekend brunch options. Daily, with half-price burgers and budget-friendly prices on East Coast oysters.

Locations

The first outpost opened in Highland Park in 2017, followed by a location in Addison in 2018. When looking for a third site, Vandelay CEO Hunter Pond was attracted to the neighborhood with its mix of newlyweds, families and older couples. Hudson House offers six types of oysters, which are shipped daily from the East Coast. With seemingly few oyster aficionados in land-locked Dallas, the selections are marked with recommendations for first-timers and oyster snobs alike. The East Coast-inspired restaurant at Abrams Road and Mockingbird Lane features more than 70 pieces of artwork that pay tribute to the landscape and wildlife of the Hudson Valley. The menu is similarly inspired by the culinary history of the region.

The Raw Bar

It’s the third location for Hudson House, joining the original restaurant in Highland Park and an Addison outpost that opened in 2018. The newest Hudson House will occupy a 4,500 square foot space that formerly housed an IHOP, complete with a private dining space called the Pineapple Room. I recently went to the Addison Hudson House for a late Sunday brunch. We had a reservation and it was crowded, but it looked like those without a reservation were not having to wait more than 10 to 15 minutes for a table. This Hudson House has a charming outdoor patio, but alas the weather wasn’t on our side that day for dining al fresco. I’ll be sure to pop in frequently now since this location is just a few blocks from my home.

For those grieving the loss of IHOP pancakes, fear not. Hudson House’s brunch menu incorporates creations that rival the popular pancake chain. Hudson House’s version includes a red velvet Belgian waffle with honey butter, maple syrup and double-fried chicken. The lemon pancakes will also satisfy any sweet tooth with lemon ricotta, powdered sugar, cream cheese glaze, blueberries and whipped cream. My dining companion and I decided to try all six oyster options at Hudson House and all were delicious, but I must say that the blue points were my absolute favorite. I made sure to note when we were leaving that during happy hour (every day from 3 to 6 pm) all oysters are half-price (normally it’s $3.50 per oyster).

I opted for the “World’s Coldest Martinis” for my second drink. The Stone Fruit with peach vodka, Patrón Citrónage, white cranberry, and fresh lime was the perfect choice. Paired with seafood tower, The Bouquet, we couldn’t have had a better start to our meal. As impressive as it was educational, the tower came with twelve oysters and an informational card explaining their origins and flavor profiles.

Collins says restaurant staff seat guests in every other booth and do not allow people to wait in the lobby for a table. After experiencing almost half of the menu in one sitting, I get the hype. Keep an eye out for Hudson House’s Greek key and pineapple motifs hidden in antique materials soured from around the world. Another starter we tried was Hudson’s Avocado Dip with whipped avocado and ranch chips.
